Funding Matters Training
Funding Workshops beginning this Autumn
There are a series of programmes listed on this page. The Essential Six Course Programme is delivered in six sessions to cover, step by step, all the key elements to help organisations prepare themselves to be fit for funding. Each course builds on knowledge from the earlier courses.
The programmes are offered across North Yorkshire. For your convenience the table below lists those dates the courses are available in Harrogate and Craven. But if these dates do not suit you, you are free to book onto any of the courses within any of the districts, giving you the flexibility to pick and chose to suit teh times and dates you are available. The full sub-regional York and North Yorkshire Funding Advice Network (FAN) programme can be downloaded here. A booking form for the dates below can be downloaded here. COURSE 1: FOUNDATIONS FOR SUCCESS

Especially for groups in the early stages of developing a project that will require funding. This course will help your group get fit for funding by helping you decide if you have the right tools in place to start fundraising for your project. This course will help ensure that you have the right tools in place to get started. It will help you understand the key factors that funders will look for in any application, and some of the jargon they use.
The course will cover:
How is your group organised, including: Constitutions and Bank Accounts
How will you plan your project to get funding including: aims and objectives, how to describe need, people who are to be involved and budgets |
COURSE 2: FUNDERS AND APPLICATIONS

Aimed at groups that have little experience of applying for funding. The course will show you what resources are available for researching funding. It will give you the confidence to find the right funder(s) that could support your project. It will also show you some techniques for making a successful application.
The course will cover:
Resources to research funders
Understanding funders jargon
What to look out for in funders guidelines
How to choose the right funder for your group and project
How to write an attractive application |
COURSE 3: DEVELOPING A FUNDRAISING STRATEGY

This three-hour course is aimed at groups that have had some experience of applying for funding. The course will provide you with the skills to write a fundraising strategy which will highlight the funding needs and priorities of your organisation. This will be essential to help your group focus on where it wants to get to, how this will be done and by whom. It will also help you understand how to plan a project and how to make this project attractive to funders.
The course will cover the following:
The contents of a fundraising strategy
Planning your project
Creating cash flows
Understanding the more complex jargon used by funders |
COURSE 4: IMPROVING APPLICATIONS

This course is for groups that have had some experience of writing funding applications. It will provide you with the skills to write a successful funding application/proposal that will grab the funder’s attention. It will ensure you have all the tools in place for communicating your project idea effectively and raise your awareness about why applications could fail.
The course will cover the following:
Understanding funder’s criteria
Writing effective applications
Understanding your project and its need
Comprehending complex jargon used by funders |
COURSE 5: OUTCOMES AND EVALUATION

This session is aimed at groups with experience of one year or more in preparing applications to funders. It will: help you understand what funders mean by the terms outcomes, monitoring and evaluation; provide you with the skills to understand the outcomes of your groups/projects and how you could measure them; provide you with the tools for monitoring and evaluating your project and the methods you can use.
The session will cover the following:
Understanding complex jargon used by funders
The difference between soft and hard outcomes
How to write and measure your project’s outcomes
The resources you will need
Methods for monitoring and evaluation |
COURSE 6: CREATIVITY IN FUNDRAISING

This course is aimed at groups with at least one year of experience in fundraising, or who have attended Courses 1-5, and want to explore how they could do things differently in terms of fundraising. It iwll draw on the experience of everyone attending the course to help develop creativity, foster learning and share good practice. Can you learn from the practices of others and challenge how, why and what they are doing in fundraising? How could you think differently and creatively to expand your organisation, its funding its outcomes and benefits? Got a good idea but don't know how to present or develop it? If you want some creative inspiration come along! |
