Practical Help
Talking Space
Talking Space is part of The Mental Health Project
Talking Space is an exciting new initiative that has emerged out of the Women’s Counselling Service. Due to fund raising by enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers the original service has been able to expand and extend to encompass additional client groups.
A new name became a necessity as alongside the counselling for women we can now offer counselling for men and counselling to rural areas. A new group - HAEDS - Harrogate and Area Eating Disorders Support Group now meets monthly to provide support in a friendly, confidential and relaxed setting.
‘Talking Space’ therefore incorporates:
o The Women’s Counselling Service
o The Men’s Counselling Service
o Rural Outreach Counselling
There are currently 19 volunteer counsellors working from bases in Harrogate and Ripon.
These services offer confidential counselling, with experienced counsellors, for men and women over the age of 18 in the Harrogate and Ripon area. Counselling is not time limited.
We do not charge for counselling but clients are encouraged to give a donation, where possible, to help maintain the service.
Our volunteer counsellors have experience of counselling and are either professionally qualified or Diploma students. All counsellors are interviewed, and police checked and receive regular supervision. Counselling sessions are held in a private room. Some evening appointments are also possible, subject to availability.
